Orange County, CA Residents Recycle Over 32,000 Pounds of Hazardous Waste at Community Collection Event

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR) hosted another successful Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on September 14, 2024, at the Huntington Beach Corporate Yard. Thanks to the collective efforts of Orange County residents, the event attracted over 500 vehicles and resulted in the collection of more than 32,000 pounds of hazardous materials, including 14,000 pounds of hazardous waste, over 11,000 pounds of e-waste, and 7,200 pounds of latex paint.

This turnout underscores the community’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship and public health. The event provided residents with a convenient way to safely dispose of a wide range of materials, including household chemicals, automotive products, fluorescent light bulbs, and various types of e-waste such as televisions, tablets, and old cell phones.

Attendance at the Huntington Beach location increased by 94%, from an average of 172 vehicles during a typical Saturday operation to over 500 in just one day. This notable increase highlights the growing community participation and engagement. For those whose homes are not near Huntington Beach, OCWR operates three additional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers in Anaheim, Irvine, and San Juan Capistrano.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers:

  •          Anaheim Collection Center: 1071 N. Blue Gum Street, 92806
  •          Irvine Collection Center: 6411 Oak Canyon, 92618
  •          San Juan Capistrano Collection Center: 32250 Avenida La Pata, 92675

The success of this event highlights the ongoing need for such programs, and OCWR is pleased to continue offering these essential services to the community. Residents are encouraged to visit our Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers for ongoing disposal needs.
