SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): OceanaGold announced that it has temporarily suspended gold mine operations at its Macreas and Waihi operations, in New Zealand, following government’s imposition of countrywide lockdown, as part of measures to contain spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
According to company press release, the temporary suspension of mining and other activities at the mines commenced at 11.59 pm Tuesday, August 16. The operations are likely to remain suspended until at least 11.59 pm Friday, August 27. Furthermore, the Macreas and Waihi operations are ready for a safe and rapid restart following the easing of restrictions as per government’s updated order.
The Alert Level Four declared by the NZ administration calls for halt in operations of all businesses that are not classified as essential services. Meantime, the company is said to be maintaining feed from stockpile through the Macreas autoclave to mitigate the impacts caused by the unplanned shutdown.
Michael Holmes, President and CEO, OceanaGold noted that the final impact of the temporary suspension is not yet determined. The Haile Gold Mine is operating at normal levels, whereas the company is progressing well on Didipio mine restart, Holmes added.
