SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Board of Directors of Charlotte, North Carolina-headquartered Nucor Corporation has given final approval towards construction of a new galvanizing line at its Arkansas sheet mill. The company plans to invest around $240 million for the construction. The new galvanizing line will have an annual production capacity of nearly half-a-million tons. The works are likely to commence soon and the line is expected to become operational by H1 2021.
John Ferriola, Chairman, CEO & President of Nucor noted that the company is in the process of building one of the most modern and efficient steel mills in the world at Arkansas plant facility. The new galvanizing line coupled with specialty cold mill complex will significantly enhance the production capability of the mill. This will enable Nucor to help meet the current and future projected demand for advanced high-strength steel products, mainly for automotive industry, Ferriola said. It must be noted that the construction of specialty cold mill complex at an investment of $230 million is already underway.

The company press release also states that it is currently evaluating the possibilities of building additional galvanizing lines at its other sheet mills too.
Earlier in March this year, Nucor Corp. had decided to construct a new rebar micro mill in Frostproof, Florida at an investment of around $240 million. The proposed micro mill, scheduled to open sometime in 2020, is estimated to have a capacity of 350,000 tons per annum.
