SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis Inc. announced that it has achieved Performance Standard Certifications from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) for all of its 14 aluminum scrap collection centers in Brazil, South America. The centres are the first of their kind to receive the prestigious certification.

The company press release issued in connection with the achievement of the important milestone noted that it is a recognition of the company’s responsible manufacturing practices by the internationally recognized certification organization. It demonstrates Novelis’ strong focus on the circular economy, industry-leading levels of recycled content across its product range and its ambition to be a sustainability leader in the aluminium industry.
The collection centers collects post-consumer aluminum beverage cans, recycles them into the same aluminum sheet product, which is then made into a new beverage can. The company recycled nearly 21 billion cans, accounting for approximately 64% of all the cans recycled in Brazil during 2021.
Eunice Lima, Director, Communications and Government Affairs, Novelis South America noted that the ASI Performance Standard Certification demonstrates that the company is appropriately addressing environmental, social and governance principles for the production of aluminium.
