SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis, Inc. announced that it has entered into a long-term supply agreement with leading North American aluminum can maker, Ball Corporation. Under the new contract, Novelis will supply aluminum sheet to Ball’s manufacturing plants in North America. The new contract is an extension of the multi-decade partnership between the two companies.
With this, Novelis has secured all of the beverage can capacity from its new Bay Minette, Alabama plant, which is expected to start commissioning in 2025. The plant will have an initial capacity of 600,000 tonnes of aluminum, which will mainly serve the North American beverage can market and automotive markets.
Steve Fisher, president and CEO of Novelis noted that the company is proud to continue its partnership with Ball. The securing of contracts for beverage can production capacity two years prior to its completion demonstrates customers’ ever-rising confidence in the company, he added.
The global aluminum beverage can sheet demand is projected to grow at a CAGR of 3% from 2022 to 2031, said the company. The projected growth is mainly on account of growing consumer preference for more sustainable products and the trend of more beverage types being packed in cans.
