ATLANTA (Scrap Monster): The world’s leading aluminum rolling and recycling, Novelis announced during Thursday that it cast the first production sized ingot successfully. It is about 10 meters long. It is produced at its 200 million Euro aluminium recycling and casting center in Nachterstedt, Germany.
The new plant was commissioned near to the company’s existing aluminium rolling mill and it can produce around 400,000 metric tons of aluminium sheet ingots from recycled material yearly. This new plant is considered as the world’s biggest aluminum recycling center. The plant has started its operations in 2013.
The successful casting of production sized ingot hence made another milestone leading to the proposed production at full commercial volume and to the official opening in fall 2014. Erwin Mayr, Senior Vice President of Novelis and President, Novelis Europe said that they are very much pleased with the steady progress on the construction and ramp-up of our recycling center in Nachterstedt.
He added that this significant investment further point out their long term sustainability, commitment to raise the recycled content of their products over all markets and reserve the valuable natural resources, while enabling their customers to make products with a smaller environmental footprint. The new recycling plant will help the company to expand their business activities all over the European nation, where Novelis became the leading recycler of used beverage cans.
