SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Atlanta-based Novelis, Inc. has launched a new ‘ultra-high-strength’ aluminum product, which the company claims to be the strongest-ever automotive aluminum product manufactured by the company. The newly launched Novelis Advanz 7UHS-s701 is now available commercially.
According to Novelis press release, the technologically advanced product offers 40% more lightweighting potential, compared with comparable high-strength steel products used in automobile manufacture. The use of the new products will result in mass reduction in commercial as well as electric vehicle, by enabling increased payload and longer battery range. Also, it is primarily suitable for safety-critical structural applications in passenger vehicles.

The manufacturing process of the new material offers significant environmental benefits through reduced carbon dioxide emissions, in addition to notable savings in transportation costs. For instance, the scrap collected during the manufacturing process can be recycled and reformed into the same products from which it was derived.
Philippe Meyer, senior vice president and chief technology officer, Novelis Inc. said that Advanz 7UHS-s701 will help automakers design even safer, lighter and better performing vehicles.
