Novelis Broke Ground on Alabama Aluminum Recycling and Rolling Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis, Inc. broke ground on its new $2.5 billion recycling and rolling plant in Bay Minette, Alabama. It will have an initial capacity of 600 kilotonnes of finished aluminum goods capacity per year and is expected to create up to 1,000 jobs. Also, the new beverage can recycling center will boost Novelis’ overall recycling capacity by 15 billion cans per year.

The construction of the highly advanced facility will be led by its core leadership team. In addition, the company plans to recruit candidates for various open roles in engineering, maintenance, finance, human resources and IT.

According to company press release, the site work is already underway. The building construction will commence within two months, during which it plans to build two new roadways on the site. The facility is expected to be commissioned during mid-2025.

Tom Boney, Executive Vice President and President of Novelis North America noted that the facility will play a key role by contributing significantly to the local economy and enhancing the quality of life of communities in the region. He thanked the support received from the state, Baldwin County, Bay Minette and other partners. Furthermore, he announced the company’s intentions to invest $150,000 in south Alabama non-profit organizations over the period of next six months.
