SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Norsk Hydro- the Norwegian aluminum and renewable energy producer announced further curtailment of production at its primary aluminum plant in Slovalco, Slovakia. The announcement to this effect was made yesterday following approval of the decision by its Board of Directors.
The above decision will bring down the production at the facility to around 60% of the capacity. The announced production curtailments will commence at the end of January 2022. It must be noted that the company is currently in the process of reducing the production capacity to 80% before the end of the current year, in accordance with its previous decision in December 2019.

The decision will impact primary foundry alloy volumes at the Slovakian facility. The company will closely monitor the situation in the coming weeks and months. Meantime, the company’s Norwegian production system will fulfill customer commitments at the plant. Also, the curtailment will not impact the company’s remelting operation, the press release said.
Incidentally, Slovalco has an estimated production capacity of 175,000 tonnes per annum of primary aluminum and a casthouse capacity of approximately 250,000 tonnes.
