SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Washington, D,C., U.S. –headquartered nonprofit Oceana announced the results of a new nationwide poll. Accordingly, 8 in 10 Americans support national, state and local policies that reduce single-use plastics.
Oceana noted that Americans are extremely worried about plastics chocking the oceans and want real change in national level policy actions, in order to stop pollution at the source itself. A vast majority of the registered voters were found highly concerned about plastic pollution. The poll also revealed that there exists strong bipartisan support for policies that reduce the use of single-use plastic products, including plastic bags.

Nearly 77% of the registered voters agreed that companies need to stop producing and using huge volumes of single-use plastics. Also, 78% expect companies to offer plastic-free options.
The poll participants urged the U.S. Congress to pass ‘The Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act’, introduced by Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and Rep. Alan Lowenthal, D-Calif. The Act would phase out single-use plastic products and put pause on new plastic manufacturing facilities across the country.
The U.S. generates more plastic waste than any other country and exports much of these to developing countries. Also, the U.S. is behind other counties in combating this crisis through single-use plastic regulation, said Christy Leavitt, Oceana’s plastics campaign director.
