SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A new report published by ‘Break Free From Plastic’ provides detailed analysis of projects undertaken by corporate including Procter & Gamble (P&G), Nestle and Coca-Cola, aimed at reducing plastic pollution. It blames that most of these costly projects fall short of meeting their ultimate objective.
The new report, titled “Missing the Mark: Unveiling corporate false solutions to the plastic pollution crisis”, analyzed 265 recent and current projects by fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies to tackle plastic waste. It must be noted that the analysis process excluded lighweighting and material replacement initiatives. It revealed that as many as 226 projects were found to be “false solutions to the plastic pollution crisis”. The companies are seen investing in projects that do little to eliminate use of plastics, though they claim these projects to be tackling the waste.

The audit conducted by ‘Break Free From Plastic’ identified Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, Mars Inc., Mondelez International, Nestlé, Unilever, and the Coca-Cola Co. as the topmost polluters.
The report noted that the 2020 progress reports submitted by six out of the seven top-polluting FMCG companies look vague. Surprisingly, P&G has no targets set for 2025. The company has targets set only for 2030.
