SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Rainy River gold mine in Ontario and the New Afton copper-gold mine in British Columbia have reached important production milestones, according to Toronto-based New Gold Inc.
C-Zone, the fourth block cave in New Afton, reached commercial production ahead of schedule, according to a news statement from the firm. Earlier in the month, the materials handling system went online. The desired hydraulic radius for self-cave propagation has also been attained by the cave footprint. According to the company, the successful completion of the C-Zone cave footprint and the installation of the gyratory crusher and conveyor system should immediately improve unit operating costs.

Ahead of schedule, the Rainy River mine extracted its first development ore from Underground Main. This comes after the major fresh air lift and in-pit portal were finished in the third quarter of this year. The Underground Main project is expected to ramp up to a higher underground production rate by 2027 after commencing stoping in H1 2025.
"The company is proud to deliver critical milestones at both of its growth projects, ahead of schedule," said Patrick Godin, president and CEO. According to him, technical research is being conducted at both operations to replace the depletion of mineral deposits and unlock more value.
