SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Arlington, VA-headquartered The Aluminum Association announced publication of a new framework that outlines strategic policy priorities to help the domestic U.S. aluminum industry tackle the major challenges. It also suggests taking action on energy, recycling, commerce, and other issues.
In order to combat government-subsidized industry and guarantee fair competition worldwide, the framework suggests enforcing tough, targeted trade regulations. In order to successfully reduce the threat of unfair trade practices by China, it advocates for more robust import monitoring systems and tariff harmonization in North America.

The region must enhance collection infrastructure and put policies like recycling refunds and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs into place in order to increase domestic recycling and guarantee a vital source of metal supply. According to the Association, policies that encourage consumer recycling and increase investment in recycling infrastructure will result in improved material reclamation.
The framework also suggests developing a national plan to protect supply chains used by the aluminum industry.
"Unlocking the full potential of American aluminum, whose demand is expected to witness tremendous growth in the coming years, requires a decisive policy action," stated Charles Johnson, President and CEO.
