SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The new campaign launched in Bangkok aims to reduce plastic use in the country. The Bottle Free Seas Campaign will install free waster dispensers across the city, so as to promote refilling of plastic bottles, thus preventing from being thrown away.
The innovative campaign, launched in collaboration with Central Pattana, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Environmental Justice Foundation, and Brilliant Power Co Ltd, was inaugurated by Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor, BMA. The first dispenser has been installed in front of the Central World shopping centre, one of the busiest places in the City.
As per rough estimates, Bangkok discards approximately 70 million plastic bottles every month. The staggering volume of plastic waste has prompted the launch of the programme. The campaign plans to install nine more water dispensers across the Bangkok city. The move will help the country move a big step forward in its journey to ambitious net-zero goal by 2050.
The organizers of the campaign urged locals and tourists to refill their bottles at the dispensers, thereby reducing environmental pollution.
