SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Metsa Fibre, part of Metso Group, announced that it has begun negotiations on changes related to its plans to end the sawm timber production in Kyro. As per plans, the production will come to an end in summer this year. The decision is likely to affect all the 73 employees at the sawmill.
Announcing the decision, Ismo Nousiainen, CEO, Metsa Fibre noted that the company has decided to close down the operations of the Kyro sawmill as it has reached the end of its technical service life. The sawmill has a production capacity of approximately 230,000 cubic metres of pine sawn timber. Also, it consumes around 450,000 cubic metres of wood per annum.

In an earlier press release, Metsa Group had announced suspension of Russian operations until further notice. Consequently, operations at the Svir sawmill- the company’s only production unit in Russia stands suspended. Also, it has discontinued wood procurement in the country for the Svir sawmill as well as imports to Metsa Group’s mills in Finland and Sweden.
Also, UPM and Stora Enso had announced stoppage of production and sales in Russia until further notice, in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
