Metals Recycling Trade Body Announced Launch of New Zero Carbon Committee

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA) announced launch of Zero Carbon Committee, as part of its efforts to seek economic alternatives for metal recyclers to switch to net zero by 2050, in line with the goal set by the UK Government.

The trade association representing the UK Metals Recycling Sector looks to capitalize on the already well-established green credentials of metal recycling in order to benefit the sector as a whole. The initiative follows serious environmental concerns raised at the recently held COP26 summit in Glasgow, which called for the need for zero carbon emissions in all forms of commercial activities.

The Zero Carbon Committee, comprising of member representatives from the industry, will work in collaboration with BMRA’s Legislative Policy Group. It will collaborate with the industry and third parties to identify initiatives and technologies that could help metal recyclers to move towards net zero in a cost-effective manner.

The UK government has been implementing various initiatives to help organizations drive their strategic goal of moving to net zero operations. It had recently launched Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF), aimed at helping businesses with investments in energy efficiency and low carbon technologies.
