SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Brampton, Ontario-headquartered Matalco broke ground at its new $80 million aluminium recycling facility in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. The plans for the facility were announced earlier in January this year.
The official groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday morning, which was attended by top company officials, in addition to distinguished dignitaries including Mayor Zach Vruwink, Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Angel Whitehead and State Representative Scott Krug of Nekoosa.
Speaking at the ceremony, Robert Roscetti, Matalco VP for Corporate development noted that the Wisconsin plant represents the company’s fifth plant. The proximity to its customer base and the potential to expand its market base and geographic footprint were the key driving forces behind the company’s decision to choose Wisconsin Rapids as the location for the new plant.

The recycling plant will take in scrap aluminium, which will be converted to billets. The company has already entered into a supply agreement with Crystal Finishings in Schofield. The company plans to spend nearly $40 million on state-of-the-art equipment at the plant, which is expected to generate 80 permanent full-time jobs and around 120-150 indirect jobs in the region.
Matalco will receive nearly $2 million in tax credits and incentives from the city and the state.
