Man Killed in Forklift Accident at Lumber Yard

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A Boyd man was killed in a forklift accident at a lumber yard in Decatur Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the forklift, Boyd resident Charles Teague, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow.

According to Decatur Police Department, Teague was operating a three-wheeled forklift at Henson Lumber when it tipped over and fell on top of him. First responders were dispatched to the accident shortly after 12:50 p.m.

“We don’t know at this point what exactly caused the forklift to overturn, but he didn’t have a load or any lumber on the forklift at the time,” Decatur Police Chief Delvon Cambell said. “This appears to be a tragic accident.”

Campbell confirmed that next of kin had been notified.

Wise County EMS and Decatur Fire Department also responded to the scene, located in the 900 block of U.S 380 Business near N. Farm Road 51. AirEvac LifeTeam 68 was placed on standby after the initial report of the accident.
