SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Major gold mining companies operating in Mali announced that operations by and large remained unaffected amidst political crisis in the country. The military group which took control of the country’s rule has led to ouster of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, who had been facing criticism for alleged corruption and failure to cope with rising Islamist insurgency in the country.
Meantime, all major miners operating in the West African nation, including B2Gold, Resolute Mining, AngloGold Ashanti, Hummingbird Resources, confirmed that the operations have not been impacted so far.
The first to make an announcement to this effect was Barrick Gold Corporation, which issued a statement, saying that its Loulo-Gounkoto mining complex had not been affected by the political situation and that the operations were continuing as normal. The complex holds adequate inventory. Furthermore, it has already taken necessary measures to secure its supply lines.

B2Gold informed that it has enough supplies to maintain activities at Fekola mine through the third quarter of the year and even beyond that.
Meantime, reports suggest that logistics for the mining sector are likely to be impacted as the land and air borders continue to remain closed.
