SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hamburg, Germany-headquartered Aurubis AG announced renovation of its Lunen, Germany recycling site. The renovation will ensure capacity expansion at an investment of around 60 million euros.
According to company press release, the work comprises of demolition and reconstruction of the tankhouse basins, in addition to planned extensive improvements to the production facility. The overhaul works will boost the capacity of the tankhouse by 10%, thereby resulting in significant improvement in its efficiency. The renovation works are likely to be completed over a period of three years.

The recycling site could be operated at 80% of its operating capacity during the renovation period. Incidentally, the Lunen site produces nearly 190,000 metric tons of copper cathodes every year.
Michael Jordan, Plant Manager, Lunen said that the latest investment by Aurubis is a clear affirmation of its largest recycling site. The capacity expansion will further strengthen its significance within the company’s integrated smelter network. Furthermore, it will immensely contribute to a sustainable circular economy, he added.
The investment, aimed at expanding metal recycling, reflects Aurubis’ commitment to Germany as an industrial location.
