SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Li-Cycle Holdings Corp.- the leading lithium-ion battery recycler in North America announced its decision to build a new commercial lithium-ion battery recycling facility, which will be located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The facility is expected to commence operations by mid-2022 and will initially create more than 30 new jobs.
This is the fourth such facility by the company in the entire North American region. Li-Cycle’s Kingston, Ontario and Rochester, New York facilities have already commenced commercial operations, whereas the Gilbert, Arizona facility is said to be in advanced execution stage.

Upon completion, the new facility will have an initial capacity to process up to 5,000 tonnes of battery manufacturing scrap and end-of-life batteries per year. This will bring the company’s total North American recycling capacity to 25,000 tonnes per year. Also, it plans to add another line with similar processing capacity in future.
Tim Johnston, Co-founder, and Executive Chairman of Li-Cycle noted that the new facility in Alabama will position the company to meet the growing demand for lithium-ion battery recycling. The facility is essential in filing a recycling gap in the southeastern United States, he added.
