SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kadapa Steel Plant- a joint venture steel project between Liberty Steel and the state government of Andhra Pradesh received environmental clearance from the Union government. The clearance comes after four months of filing of application for environmental nod by the state government.
The initial application seeking environmental clearance, along with a copy of the Environmental Impact Assessment was submitted on 20th December last year, followed by certain amendments, which were forwarded by end-January this year. The final approval by the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) followed a comprehensive review of the proposals, said the official statement published by the state government.

The government proposes to set up the joint venture steel project at Sunnapurallapalle and Peddananduluru villages in Kadapa district, having production capacity of approximately 3 million metric tonnes per year in the first phase. The anticipated first phase investment is INR 10,082 crores. The second phase will see an investment of INR 6,000 crore, which in turn will double the plant’s production capacity. It has entered into an iron-ore supply contract with the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).
Liberty Steel was appointed as the joint venture partner following recommendation by SBICap.
