SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The MP for Long Range Mountains and federal Minister of Rural Economic Development is concerned following news that Kruger is shutting down all operations at the paper mill in Corner Brook for a one week period.
The company issued a release this morning indicating that the mill will shut down for seven days starting November 20 due to “the difficult business environment in the newsprint sector.”
That will affect the mill’s 300 employees.
Gudie Hutchings says her heart goes out to affected workers and acknowledges that the paper sector is facing challenges.
“We’ll hope that they can get rejuvenated and back into the sector,” says Hutchings. She says the paper sector is changing and she says the company knows that government is there to support them in “the new world of the forestry industry.”
