SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kruger Specialty Papers has reported remarkable progress in its three-year diversification project launched in September 2017 with the aim of upgrading production at mills and expanding product portfolio.
The company had invested approximately $40 million in order to build a new bleached thermomechanical pulp (TMP) plant at its Trois-Rivières facility and to carryout upgrades to boost production at the Wayagamack Mill. Earlier this year, it reported first shipment of bleached TMT from Trois-Rivières facility. This in turn has helped the Wayagamack Mill to expand its range of product offerings to customers. The mill manufactures new coated paper from Trois-Rivières TMP, which has already positive reactions from customers.
In August last year, Kruger had achieved an important milestone when new specialty grades from its Brompton Mill reached its targets in terms of production volume, product quality, sales and customer satisfaction. The upgrade has helped to expand the Mill’s portfolio to include various new products including super-calendered kraft paper (SCK), coated one-side paper (C1S) and food packaging paper.
Kruger foresees notable benefits to production by Wayagamack and Brompton Mills due to its easy access to cellulose filaments from Kruger Biomaterials. This is expected to boost production of lighter and stronger paper which could be used by specialty packaging and labeling products manufacturers.
