SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to a statement from Barrick Gold Corporation, the Kibali gold mine in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) had a successful year at the end of 2024, helped by an uptick in performance in the last quarter.
Barrick's chief operating officer for Africa and the Middle East, Sebastiaan Bock, said 2024 was a difficult year for the business. Kibali demonstrated itself to be a reliable and effective low-cost producer in spite of a number of obstacles. In 2025 and beyond, the mine is in a good position to expand on the foundation and produce excellent outcomes.

By June of this year, the new solar plant and battery energy storage system should be finished. It should be mentioned that three hydroelectric plants provide a large portion of the mine's electricity needs.
