NEW DELHI (Scrap Monster): For their Cryostat project, ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) has selected Jindal Stainless Limited for supplying stainless steel.
Cryostat project of ITER is a large scale scientific experiment from which commercial energy is produced through fusion. The project is the collaboration of seven countries namely India, EU, Russia, Japan, South Korea, China and the US. This reactor is being built at Cucaracha, France. The reactor height would be 29.5 meters and diameter 29.5 meters and is being constructed up in 54 pieces by Indian Larsen & Toubro. This will then assemble together in France, which would be the world’s ever largest fusion equipment.
About 3650 tonnes would be required in the project. Only twp plate mills have got the approval for providing stainless steel, one is Jindal stainless from India and other from Indu Steel, France. Strict rules have been made in the place to check whether the materials are of qualified for using it in critical components.
It was found that the Jindal Stainless Limited’s Jaipur plant has the capacity to meet the strict technical requirement for the nuclear project. Due to its constant endeavors, the company has got the vendor agreement for supplying stainless steel plates and sheets for the famous ITER Cryostat nuclear project.
JSL’s Sr. VP Marketing & Supply Chain, Mr. Pankaj Mittal said that they are very excited about this project and were equipped well in all means to supply the sufficient quantity of stainless steel. They have already begun the supplies and they are extremely proud to be a part of this revolutionary and path breaking technological advancement in the power sector, he added.
