Steel News  |  2015-01-22 10:34:03

The Government of Italy has taken full control over the controversial steel plant Ilva, one of the biggest steel plant based on its capacity, as per the request submitted by the company.

ROME (Scrap Monster): Federica Guidi, the industrial Minister of the Country, signed a document on Wednesday, for the steel mill, which is a major employing company in the southern part of Italy, this is to be placed under extraordinary administration, stated one of the sources.

The company has been running under the command of a Government appointed commissioner since 2013, when the company was accused of emitting toxic gases from its main plant which is located in Taranto, in the southern part of Italy.

Arcelor Mittal,  biggest steel maker in the world, made an offer for the steel making company the previous year, along with the Italian steel processor Marcegaglia, as did another steel producer based in Italy Arvedi

It was not clear what the three offers were, but in the month of December, the government announced that it is planning to sell the steel making unit within three or four years.  In Europe, Italy is the second largest steel making country after Germany, but at the same time, the Country is affected by a 20-25 percent decline in the demand for steel in Europe after the financial crisis in 2008.
