SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): International Recycling Group (IRG) announced plans to launch an app-based pilot program to collect plastic scrap from residents in Erie, Pennsylvania. The company has partnered with the UAE-based SmartBlock Beverages FZ LLZ to schedule direct, on-demand curbside pickup service, by making use of the ZeLoop app.
The system will make use of other smartphone-based networks, such as Uber in connecting consumers and retail establishments with volunteer collectors. The companies are currently involved in the development of a recycling collection system to enable recycling of 100% of plastic materials in homes and retail establishments.

The companies have also entered into partnership with Penn State University’s Behrend campus in providing a comprehensive analysis report on participation rates.
The plastic scrap collected through the pilot program will be stored, to be processed by the IRG’s upcoming plastic recovery facility in Erie.
Chris Dow, CEO of IRG said that the pilot project aims to create a door-to-door, on-demand pickup of 100% waste plastics, by making best use of emerging technologies.
