International Paper to Award $73K to Local Nonprofits

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  The International Paper New Bern Mill plans to award a total of $73,000 in foundation grants to nonprofit organizations in 2024.

International Paper recognizes the vital role nonprofit organizations play in addressing critical needs within the community.

The grants will provide organizations with funding for new projects and programs that align with the company’s signature causes and have a positive impact on people.

Nonprofits will need to submit an application by Sept. 6. Applications can be found online at www.ipgiving.com.

"At International Paper, we are proud to invest in the communities where our employees live and work,” said Catherine Burgess, International Paper communications manager. “We understand that if our communities don’t succeed, we don’t succeed.

"The IP Foundation Grants is one small way we are giving back to our communities, creating positive change and improving lives of individuals.”

The International Paper Foundation focuses on making sustainable investments that address critical needs in the communities where its employees live and work.

Grants are awarded based on signature causes, which include education, hunger, health and wellness, disaster relief and the environment.

For education, programs need to be focused on helping children succeed through a comprehensive approach to education. Priority is given to literacy programs from birth through third grade.

For hunger, programs need to be dedicated to improving food security in the community.

For health and wellness, programs need to promote healthy living habits.

For disaster relief, programs need to help communities prepare for and recover from natural disasters.

Funding is also available to address environmental initiatives, including forests, water and air, employee involvement grants and other critical community needs.

Applicants must be a registered nonprofit organization or qualifying federal entity. To be considered, organizations must have a program that addresses critical community needs and have measurable objectives to demonstrate impact.

The International Paper Foundation has a goal of being among the most successful, sustainable and responsible companies in the world.

Started in 1952, the foundation annually provides millions in grants to nonprofit organizations to address critical needs in the communities where their employees live and work.

International Paper is a global producer of sustainable packaging, pulp and other fiber-based products, and one of the world's largest recyclers. Headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, the company employs nearly 39,000 workers globally. The company has manufacturing operations in North America, Latin America, North Africa and Europe. Net sales in 2023 were $18.9 billion.
