The lead mine output totalled 4.555 million tonnes in 2024, up from 4.469 million tonnes in 2023.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest edition of the monthly "Lead and Zinc Statistics Bulletin," published by the International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILZSG), states that for the whole year 2024, the global supply of refined lead metal exceeded the demand by 36kt. A recent press release states that as of the end of 2024, the total recorded lead stockpile levels increased by 104,000 tonnes over the previous year to 549kt.
Global lead mining production decreased by a modest 1.9% in 2024. China had a notable drop in output, while Portugal, Ireland, and South Africa also reported lower output, which was mostly to blame. The decrease was largely offset by increased mine output recorded by the United States, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Peru, Australia, and Sweden. The output of the lead mine increased from 4.469 million tonnes in 2023 to 4.555 million tonnes in 2024.

This period has seen a 1.7% decline in refined lead metal production, primarily as a result of lower output in China and Canada, which has been slightly offset by higher output in Australia, India, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. In the meantime, global lead metal consumption dropped somewhat from 13.088 million tonnes to 12.977 million tonnes annually.
The ILZSG reports that in December of last year, the total monthly global output from lead mines was 403.9 kt. Throughout the month, 1,120.7 kt of lead metal were utilized globally, while 1,104.8 kt of refined lead metal were produced.
