SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Technology major IBM has joined the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) as a supporting member. The collaboration will work towards developing a new data platform based on cloud technique to help tracking of plastic waste and recovery across the globe.
According to news release by IBM, the new Plastics Recovery Insight and Steering Model (PRISM) will serve as single source of data for various stakeholders towards making significant improvements in waste management decisions and programs. The stakeholders will have access to various data sets. The platform will focus on data related to plastic consumption and collection, plastic waste leaked to the environment and the various waste management systems as well as recycling systems.

Nick Kolesch, vice president for projects, APEW noted that IBM’s partnership will help it to make best use of innovative solutions and advanced solutions in its pursuit of tackling plastic waste. The partnership will help solve the big challenge of bringing together the multitude of existing data, thus enabling decision-making, he added.
The new platform harnesses the power of cloud technology and artificial intelligence techniques to bring together disparate pieces of data from alliance members, governments and regulators.
