Hydro to Invest in Henderson, Kentucky Recycling Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hydro announced plans to invest in Henderson, Kentucky aluminum recycling plant.

The proposed investment of $85 million in a new casting line will add significantly to the plant capabilities. The new line is expected to become operational by 2026 and will supply high-quality automotive components with low carbon footprint to the domestic U.S. automotive industry. The plant has been a leading producer of automotive products for nearly two decades.

The proposed upgrades have already received tax incentives from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA). The new casting line will boost aluminum capacity of the plant by 28,000 tonnes, thus strengthening Hydro Henderson’s leadership position among producers of low-carbon aluminum. The new casting line will create as many as 31 new jobs in the city of Henderson.

Eivind Kallevik, President and CEO, Hydro noted that the investment is another major step in Hydro’s game-changing journey in aluminum production.

The previously announced $15 million investment in a new baghouse and homogenization equipment at the Henderson facility is nearing completion. This will significantly boost production of advanced alloys from recycled, post-consumer scrap.
