SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A PET bottle washing and recycling plant has been installed successfully in Haiti, as part of the HP Planet Partners program, aimed at tacking ocean plastic waste.
The washing and recycling plant was supplied by South Carolina-based Zimmer America Recycling Solutions and Germany based STF Group. The plant will be operated by Canada-based The Lavergne Group.
According to these companies, the installation activities were controlled through daily online video conferences. As a result, they cite the project to be the world’s first ever virtual plastic recycling line installation. The engineering expertise by STF Group coupled with the dedicated efforts of the strong local technical support team resulted in the timely installation of the plant.

The plant, being built at an investment of $2 million by HP, aims to produce clean, high-quality recycled plastic, which will be used in HP premium products. It is part of HP’s efforts to drive meaningful change in reducing waste going into landfills and keep plastics out of nature by reducing ocean-bound plastics. It must be noted that the washing line had become fully functional during October this year.
