Green Bay Packaging Invests in Modernization of Arkansas Kraft Paper Mill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Green Bay Packaging (GBP) recently revealed a multi-year investment in its Arkansas Kraft paper mill, a move that underscores the company’s dedication to sustainable practices and operational efficiency. This significant modernization effort will enhance the mill’s infrastructure and position it for long-term success.

The project includes replacing critical process components such as the recovery boiler and biomass boiler infrastructure. GBP will also install an electric turbine generator, a key element in the company’s decarbonization strategy, aimed at reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, GBP has acquired approximately 300 acres of land to support future investments and expansion.

“The Arkansas Kraft Paper Mill, established in 1965 by my father, Jim Kress, has built a proud legacy as an industry leader. Today, I am excited to share that we are making a significant investment in our Arkansas Mill. This initiative will enhance our operational capabilities and solidify our competitive edge for the future,” said Will Kress, Chairman and CEO of GBP.

Matt Szymanski, Vice President of Mill Operations, emphasized the role of the community and workforce in the project’s success.

“To uphold our commitment to innovation and excellence, we recognize the importance of investing in future technology,” he said. “These investments only happen because of our hard-working and loyal workforce and a supportive community in Morrilton, Arkansas.”

Executive Vice President Bryan Hollenbach highlighted the project’s broader economic and environmental impact.

“GBP has been a significant contributor to the state’s economy for over five decades, and this investment reflects the company’s ongoing dedication and commitment to our workforce and Arkansas,” he said. “By updating the facility and investing in new technologies, GBP aims to foster innovation while ensuring a sustainable operation for years. We will be working closely with the state of Arkansas to make this happen.”
