Graphic Packaging Announced Permanent Decommissioning of Kalamazoo CRB Machine

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Graphic Packaging Holding Company announced its decision to permanently decommission the K3 coated recycled paperboard (CRB) machine in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  This is one of the three CRB machines at the facility and is the company’s longest-running machine. The K3 CRB machine, with an annual processing capacity of around 125,000 tons, had stopped operations in July this year.

The decision is part of the company’s CRB optimization plan announced in 2019, by boosting transformational investment in a new, state-of-the-art K2 CRB machine. The permanent decommissioning of the older machine is considered as the next step forward in its network optimization journey.

The decommissioning of K3 CRB machine will support more efficient use of resources and help the company attain its margin enhancement goals. The cost-effective and high-quality K2 will meet the increased demand for high quality coated recycled paperboard.

The decommissioning is not expected to have any impact on the company’s projected adjusted EBITDA of $1.9 billion for the current year.

The company will announce its third quarter 2023 financial results before the market opens on Tuesday, October 31^st. Also, a conference call to discuss results will be held at 10:00 AM ET.
