GLR Announces Opening of New Battle Creek Metal Recycling Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Roseville, MI-headquartered GLR Advanced Recycling has announced the opening of a new metal recycling facility on North Raymond Road in Battle Creek, Michigan. This is the company’s sixth facility and the fourth facility with automotive recycling capabilities.

The new facility will mainly focus on buying and processing of scrap vehicles, whereby various parts will be shredded and melted down to make new parts and products. The Battle Creek facility has a capacity to process approximately 1,000 cars per month. The plant which employs 10 people altogether, is expected to add in excess of $4 million in revenues to balance sheet every year.

According to Michael Bassirpour, president of GLR Advanced Recycling, the opening of the new facility is part of company’s plan to open up in multiple cities. The availability of large amount of vehicles for recycling in Battle Creek and neighboring cities such as Jackson, Lansing and Kalamazoo makes it an ideal location to start business, he said. The huge volumes of scrap vehicles available for recycling have made them the top recycled product in the country, he added.

Started in 1927, GLR Advanced Recycling had earlier operated metal yards in Roseville, Ann Arbor, Port Huron and Flint,  in addition to the paper, cardboard and plastic processing facility in Northville and an electronic recycling facility in Oak Park.

In 2017, the company had decided to focus on metal recycling. As part of this, it sold its paper processing and recycling facilities. The decision to shift focus to ferrous and non-ferrous metals recycling yielded positive results. Consequently, the company was able to double its profits during the year.

The press release issued by GLR Advanced Recycling states that the Battle Creek facility will accept vehicles from individuals, dealers and auction houses.
