SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): GFG Alliance, the owner of Liberty Steel Group, announced its decision to partner with leading research groups to drive sustained change in the UK steel sector. The launch of new three-way policy partnerships will drive GREENSTEEL transition, in line with its policy of achieving maximum decarbonisation of steel production in the region.
According to the company, the partnerships with Green Alliance, the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and Bright Blue were reached during the recently held COP26 summit in Glasgow. The partners will work with the company towards developing a sustainable future for the UK steel industry and garnering investor support towards decarbonisation of steel production.

The three organizations highlighted the important role played by steelmaking and steel products in the drive to net-zero.
Commenting on the development, Sanjeev Gupta, Executive Chairman, GFG Alliance said that the steel sector in the region has been under enormous strain in recent years due to issues related with competitiveness and lack of investment. It aims to tap the environmental, operational and economic expertise of its partners to boost transition to a net-zero steel industry, he added.
