SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Georgia-Pacific announced plans to invest in modernization of its sawmill in Texas. The mill, located in Pineland, Texas will undergo $120 million additions and improvements, which will lead to significant boost in overall production capacity.
As part of the project, the existing stud mill at the site will be replaced with a new sawmill. Also, the current vintage equipment will be replaced by a new high-speed planer. A new continuous dry kiln will lead to increased productivity. In addition, the project comprises expansion of log yard storage and installation of a new debarking and log processing line, said the company press release.
Upon operating at full capacity, the new mill is expected to have annual production capacity of up to 450 million board feet of dimensional lumber, significantly higher than the current capacity of 380 million board feet. Also, it will increase the number of wood delivery trucks from 250 to 300 loads per day.
Commenting on the investment decision, Darryl Melton, Sabine County Judge noted that the investment will ensure that the Pineland Lumber Complex will continue to be part of the community for many more years to come.
