SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Georgia-Pacific announced official opening of its newest lumber manufacturing facility in Warren County, Georgia. The celebrations to mark the official opening was attended by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Secretary of Agriculture Gary Black, and Commission Chairman John Graham, top company officials and other dignitaries and community members.
The new state-of-the-art lumber facility was built on the same site of its existing lumber mill at an investment of nearly $135 million. The 340,000 square-foot facility which features latest technologies, created additional 80 jobs at the plant. The capacity of the plant is projected at around 350 million board feet of lumber per annum.
Christian Fischer, President and CEO, Georgia-Pacific noted that the company is proud to invest in the facility, adding 80 new jobs to the local workforce. The company is honoured to share the dedication with Governor Kemp, distinguished guests, along with community friends and neighbours, he added.
Meantime, Governor Kemp commented that the new lumber facility will benefit hardworking Georgians and their families in the region. The continued expansion of forestry industry will create more opportunities across rural communities in the years to come, Kemp said.
The Warren County facility is the second of three new sites proposed by the company. It had opened the Talladega, Alabama facility last year. Also, the Albany, Georgia facility is under construction and is expected to open by next spring.
