SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): On Monday, November 25, at 9:14 a.m., the Fargo Fire Department received a report of a fire inside NPS Metals, located at 3801 15th Ave. N. The initial report indicated the fire was inside a shot blasting cabinet on the interior of the building.
Shot blasting equipment works by propelling abrasive media, such as steel shot or grit, at high velocity against a surface using a blasting wheel. The abrasive media removes contaminants, leaving a clean and smoothed surface. The abrasive media is then collected and recycled by the machine.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the building and quickly extinguished the fire in approximately 15 minutes. The fire was confined to a shot cabinet and equipment nearby the cabinet. As a result of the fire, the building was filled with smoke.
All employees of the building evacuated; before exiting the building, one employee used a fire extinguisher on the flames. No one was injured in the fire. The building sustained smoke damage.
The Fargo Fire Department responded with four engines, one ladder truck and a battalion chief. The cost of the damage is unknown at this time.
