SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest report published by the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) states that the European pulp and paper industry created nearly 2,000 new jobs in 2018. The paper and board production by CEPI members totaled around 92.2 million tonnes during the previous year. Also, the sector witnessed opening of 9 new mills, for the first time since 1990s.
According to CEPI, the packaging, hygiene and specialty paper sectors recorded increased production. On the contrary, reduced demand led to reduced production of graphic paper in 2018.
The exports of paper and board products from the European region to North America totaled 20.6 million tonnes, marginally higher by 1.1% when compared with 2017 exports. Meantime, imports too recorded a year-on-year jump by 3.3% in 2018.
