DS Smith Plans to Double Corrugated Packaging Market Size

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Annual Report published by London, UK-based packaging major DS Smith plc targets to double its size and profitability of corrugated packaging market, building on the strong performance recorded in 2018.

The company aims to achieve the above said targets by winning market share and accelerating its growth among various customers. DS Smith also plans to expand its footprint through acquisitions and greenfield sites. Specifically, it plans to introduce retail-ready packaging in the U.S., in addition to continuing its efforts to expand further in the country. In 2018-’19, the company will focus on driving growth through investment and acquisitions, optimizing the manufacture and sourcing of CCM and maximizing the efficiency of operations and procurement.

DS Smith aims to the leading supplier of sustainable packaging solutions, in line with its business strategy. It plans to focus on production of high quality, cost-effective corrugated packaging. Consequently, the company has already initiated a strategic review of its Plastics business.

The company had achieved strong organic growth in 2017/18, reporting box volume growth of 5.2% and robust revenue growth of 17%. It must be noted that the box volume growth in 2017 and 2016 were only 3.2% and 3.1% respectively. The adjusted operating profit grew by 16%. It witnessed high growth from multinational and e-commerce customers. DS Smith reported significant expansion of its corrugated packaging and paper operations into North America.
