SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading European packaging company DS Smith plc collaborated with Coca Cola HBC Austria on new innovative packaging that will replace plastics. The new solution, which replaces plastic handles for 1.5 litre PET soft drink multi-packs with cardboard based outer packaging, will be rolled out to Austrian supermarkets this month itself.
The DS Smith Lift Up packaging solution is a fully recyclable corrugated handle, aimed at improving carry functionality for consumers. The carrier handle comprises of a soft grip, thus making it easy for customers to carry the products. The packaging solution, manufactured in partnership with Krones, can be applied to different bottle sizes.
The use of DS Smith’s Circular Design Metrics approach in design has delivered significant reduction in carbon footprint, the company press release noted.
Stefano Rossi, CEO, Packaging Solutions Division, DS Smith noted that the company is proud to partner on the innovative packaging solution. In addition to looking fantastic in stores and supermarkets, the packaging solution drives out unnecessary waste and single use plastic. The collaboration aims to lead the way to a more sustainable future for manufacturers, retailers, and consumers, Rossi added.
This is the first-ever packaging solution of its kind for 1.5 litre PET multipacks of Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, and Mezzo mix brands in Austria.
