SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Packaging major DS Smith announced its decision to extend its successful partnership with GE Gas Power at the Lucca Paper Mill in Italy. The partnership will boost the sustainability features at the mill.
According to company press release, the Lucca paper mill with production capacity of 420,000 tonnes of recycled paper per annum will install a new aeroderivative gas turbine from GE. The installation of the new technology will boost the mill efficiency by nearly 2%, which in turn will lead to substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and gas consumption. As per estimates, the carbon dioxide emissions will be lowered by nearly 4,000 tonnes per year.

The gas turbines will accelerate the company’s effort to achieve 30% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
Stefano Andreotti, Project Director for DS Smith said that GE’s proven aeroderivative gas turbine technology will help to improve the efficiency, power output and lifetime of its power generation assets. Furthermore, it will contribute to reduction in emissions and optimization of costs of steam and electricity.
Meantime, Michael Rechsteiner, Vice President Europe, GE Gas noted that the project further builds its strong relationship with DS Smith over the past twenty years. DS Smith will benefit from improved sustainability and reduced emissions, he added.
