SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith announced a series of ambitious climate targets. The company aims to achieve 40% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per tonne of product by 2030, upon comparison with 2019 levels. Furthermore, it targets to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
As part of its efforts to achieve the above milestones, DS Smith has joined the UN’s Race to Zero campaign- a global campaign backed by the UN to undertake rigorous and immediate actions to halve global emissions by 2030 and deliver a healthier and zero carbon world in time.

Andrew Griffith MP, former business advisor to the PM and current UK Net Zero Business Champion announced that DS Smith has been making notable progress against its previous targets. The company’s decision to join the UN’s Race to Zero will inspire other companies in the sector to take similar actions. Businesses play a key role in driving the transition to a low carbon economy, he added.
The company has already invested in modern technologies to curb carbon emissions. It has carried out several upgrades including installation of new boilers and LED lighting. In addition, it has achieved increased use of renewable fuel sources such as biogas and biomass. The improvements to energy usage have resulted in significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
