SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Packaging leader DS Smith announced that it has reached an important milestone in its plastic replacement fight, in partnership with leading FMCG brands.
The program was launched in 2020 as part of its Now & Next Sustainability Strategy. Since then, the company has helped in replacing over 1 billion everyday plastic items from supermarket shelves, by partnering with world’s iconic FMCG brands. The company has delivered on the target almost a year ahead.

DS Smith has already created more than 1,000 designs for a wide range of products aimed at reducing the use of problematic plastics. The replacement of one billion pieces of plastics is only the beginning and not the end goal, the company noted. The company is excited about the future possibilities and the positive impacts it could create by embracing circular economy design principles, it added.
Miles Roberts, Group Chief Executive, DS Smith noted that the company’s Now & Next strategy will drive environmental change by helping its customers replace plastics. He commended the efforts by its employees for meeting the target a year ahead of actual schedule. The company will continue to support its customers and communities to deliver further positive impacts, he added.
