SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced publication of the CTA 2019 Sustainability Report. The latest report details on the critical role played by tech innovations in ensuring a sustainable future.
The consumer technology industry offers over 8,000 responsible recycling locations across the U.S. In addition, several tech companies offer their own take-back collection and recycling programs. The residential energy consumption by tech devices in the country has reported 25% compared with 2010 levels, despite 21% surge in the total devices used by the U.S. households.
According to the report, the voluntary agreements to towards improvement of energy-efficiency of set-top boxes have resulted in $5 billion in energy-savings, thereby eliminating 30 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions since 2012. Several of the CTA member companies have announced their commitment to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2050. Also, they have been exploring innovative ways to reduce water use in manufacturing process, the report said.
Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA said that innovations in tech industry will help to protect the environment for generations to come. The industry remains committed to address environmental challenges, he added.
