SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest statistics published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) points to significant decline in crude steel production by North American countries during the month of November this year.
According to worldsteel data, the North American crude steel production edged lower by 10.8%, upon comparison with the same month a year before. The Nov ‘20 production totalled 8.497 million tonnes (Mt), as against the production of 9.527 Mt in November 2019. All the countries except Mexico reported reduced output during the month.

EU-28 Countries Witnessed Notable Slump in Crude Steel Output
The U.S. production totalled 6.120 Mt, down by 13.7% from 7.088 Mt in November last year. The Canadian output too dropped by 7.2% year-on-year from 954,000 tonnes to 885,000 tonnes. Meantime, Mexican output witnessed year-on-year surge by 1.7%.
The Nov ‘20 output by Cuba witnessed notable decline by almost 35% over the previous year. The output by the country totalled around 15,000 tonnes, as compared with 23,000 tonnes. The other crude steel producers in the region were Guatemala (20,000 tonnes) and El Salvador (7,000 tonnes).
The cumulative crude steel output by North American countries totalled 91.581 Mt in the initial eleven-month period of 2020, notably down by 16.7% from the previous year. The output by the region had totalled 109.882 Mt in Jan-Nov ’19. The key producers were the U.S. (66.073 Mt), Mexico (15.220 Mt) and Canada (9.858 Mt).
