SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries edged lower by 23.7% during the month of August year-on-year. The production totaled 7.688 Mt in August this year as against 10.074 Mt recorded in August 2019.
The total crude steel production by Canada during August this year was 825,000 tonnes, substantially lower by 25.7% than the August 2019 production of 1.111 Mt. The US produced 5.588 million tonnes (Mt) of crude steel, significantly lower by 24.4% when compared to 7.396 Mt production achieved during the same month a year before. The total crude steel production by Mexico dropped 17.3% from 1.511 Mt to 1.250 Mt over the previous year.

The Cuban crude steel production tumbled by nearly 52% to 10,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 5,000 tonnes in August this year, down by over 40% when compared with 8,000 tonnes a year before. Guatemala produced 10,000 tonnes, falling by 62% from a year ago. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago plunged by 20% in March this year to 35,000 tonnes from 44,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.
