Copper Scrap Prices: Weekly Market Report- March 21, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):The below report analyses the weekly price trends of scrap copper across various regional markets during the past week (March 14 to March 20, 2025) on the Scrap Monster Price Index.

North America Prices

The copper scrap prices in the region recorded increase across the board.

The biggest increase in prices over the prior week was witnessed in #3 Copper- Light Copper, whose prices edged higher by 4.73% from $4.44 per Lb to $4.65 per Lb. The weekly price movement for #3 Copper- Light Copper scrap is shown in the below graph:

 

The other copper scrap varieties to record notable increase in prices include #2 Copper Wire and Tubing and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, which recorded weekly jump in prices by 4.63% and 4.53% respectively.

The prices of $1 Copper Bare Bright, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, and #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery were up by 4.43%, 3.91% and 3.68% respectively.

 

Also, the prices of all other copper scrap commodities in the region recorded increase over the prior week.

USA East Coast Prices

The prices of all copper scrap categories in the region witnessed notable jump in prices. #3 Copper- Light Copper prices posted the biggest increase over the week, recording jump of 4.73% from $4.44 per Lb to $4.65 per Lb.

#2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices were up by 4.63% over the week, rising from $4.54 per Lb to $4.75 per Lb.

The variation in prices over the week for #2 Copper Wire and Tubing is given in the below chart:

 

A modest increase in prices were seen in #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, $1 Copper Bare Bright, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, and #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery.

The other scrap copper categories that recorded noteworthy increase in prices included #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery, Copper Radiators, Xmas Lights, and Cu Yokes.

The least jump in prices was seen in Cu/Al Radiator Ends, whose prices edged higher by 1.64%.

USA Midwest Prices

The copper scrap prices in the region recorded increase across the board.

The biggest jump in prices over the prior week was witnessed in #3 Copper- Light Copper, whose prices edged higher from $4.34 per Lb to $4.55 per Lb, recording week-on-week increase of 4.84%.

The other copper scrap varieties to record notable increase in prices include #2 Copper Wire and Tubing and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing. #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices surged by 4.73% during the week. The #1 Copper Wire and Tubing prices were up from $4.54 per Lb to $4.75 per Lb, recording a jump of 4.63%.

A notable increase in prices was seen in #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, $1 Copper Bare Bright, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, and #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery.

The rest of the regional copper scrap categories also reported week-on-week jump in prices.

USA West Coast Prices

The copper scrap metal prices in the region witnessed noticeable jump week-on-week.

The scrap categories to record biggest increase in prices from the previous week were #3 Copper- Light Copper, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing.

Also, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, $1 Copper Bare Bright, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, and #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery recorded modest positive price variation during the week.

The prices of #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery, Copper Radiators and Xmas Lights also increased.

Meanwhile, marginal week-on-week increase in prices was reported in Romex Wire, Cu/Al Radiators, Cu/Al Radiators/Fe, Heater Cores, Cu Yokes, Copper Transformer Scrap, Cu/Al Radiator Ends, Scrap Electric Motors, Sealed Units, Starters, and Alternator.

 

China Prices

All copper scrap categories in the region witnessed weekly price increases.

#2 Copper Wire and Tubing recorded the biggest jump in prices during the previous week.

The #2 Copper Wire and Tubing prices edged higher from CNY 74,500 per MT to CNY 75,950 per MT each. 

#1 Copper Wire and Tubing reported increase in prices by CNY 1,450 per MT, from CNY 75,500 per MT during the start of the week to end at $76,950 per MT. 

#1 Copper Bare Bright also reported 1.83% jump in prices over the week.

In the meantime, #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery, Heater Cores, Cu/Al Radiators, #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery, Copper Transformer Scrap, Cu Yokes, Harness Wire 35% Recovery, Scrap Electric Motors, and Sealed Units prices also recorded marginal jump on the Index.

The least week-on-week decline of 0.28% was witnessed in Cu Yokes and Harness Wire 35% Recovery. The weekly price chart of Harness Wire 35% Recovery for the week ended March 20, 2025 is provided below:

 

 

India Prices

The scrap commodities in Indian market saw their prices edge higher over the prior week.

The copper sheet cutting scrap prices were up by INR 10,000 per ton over the previous week to close at INR 476,000 per ton on March 20, 2025 on the Scrap Monster Index. 

The prices of Copper Armeture, Copper cable scrap, Copper heavy scrap, Copper utensil scrap and Copper wire bars also increased during the week ended March 20, 2025.

Europe Prices

The prices of all copper scrap commodities such as #1 Copper Bare Bright, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, Braziery Copper, Copper Dry Bright, Copper Radiators and Copper Tubes held steady during the course of the week.

LME Copper Market Update

The closing price of LME Copper 3-Month contract stood at USD 9,951.00 per tonne as on March 20, 2025. The LME Copper Cash Settlement contract prices decreased marginally from $9,914.00 a day before to $9,911.50 per tonne.

The LME Copper stocks saw modest decline over the previous day to close at 223,275 tonnes on March 20, 2025, as compared with 225,175 tonnes on March 19, 2025.
